An American citizen is a person that swears allegiance to the U.S. before the 1860's citizenship was not important to people. The 14th amendemnet (passed in1868) was the first constitutional definition. "all people born or naturalized in the U.S. are in the judcial system
1.) born in the U.S.
2.) naturalized. 90% of Americans are citizens by birth.
naturalization is a legal process by which a person can become a ctiizen of another country at some time after birth. congress has an exclusive power to privide for naturlization.
naturalization is normally done individually.
collective natralization is when an entire group is granted citizenship through en masse(they become a citizen because the U.S. gains their territory.)
You can abdon your citizenship through expatriation.
It is unconstitutional for congress to take away citizenship no matter what. naturalized citizens can only loose citizenship if they beame a citizen illgally or choose to not be one anymore. denaturlazation only occurs by a court order and only after it has been shown that the person became an american citizen through fraud or deception.
Marrige does not make you a U.S. citizen, it just shortens the process.
congress has exclusive power to regulate the crossing of this natios borders, inwards and outwords. There is a limit
